Student Well-being

Developing happy and healthy students

We believe that providing a secure environment allows children to flourish emotionally and socially. We pride ourselves on providing a caring and nurturing environment where children have the confidence to ask for help and are encouraged to do so.
We also involve parents, guardians and families in our approaches to well-being. We have a dedicated student well-being team consisting of counsellors, teachers, and management. As part of our well-being strategy, we offer counselling sessions, mindfulness activities, an awareness programme, and a focused programme to support our students.

Child Protection
& Safeguarding

We take child protection very seriously and this is reflected in our core mission “To create a safe, stimulating and engaging learning environment.” To this end we have a designated Child Protection Officer and a Deputy Child Protection Officer on each of our campuses. We expect all our staff to take responsibility for child protection and to provide a supportive listening environment for children who may wish to alert them of any potential issues.
We are sensitive to our diverse community and cultural contexts and have well embedded policies to safeguard and promote the well-being of all of our students.
For any child protection & safeguarding concerns,
you can report them to:

E-safety

We cannot avoid the fact that we are living in a digital age and while this brings with it numerous advantages, especially in regards to educational apps it does also present some challenges. Being online is now a key part of young people’s lives, whether for educational purposes or connecting with friends and gaming. Our e-safety policy aims to protect pupils from the potential risks of going online. We have a robust e-Safety and cybersecurity policy and process that aims to protect students from any potential sabotage.

Well-Being - Positive Education

Positive Education takes place every day through pastoral care, coaching, teaching and everyday interaction that our teachers have with their students. RAK Academy is invested in our student’s holistic education and as such support a Positive Education Curriculum to support our student’s well-being. Our Positive Education Curriculum is built on world-renowned research in the field of positive psychology and enables our students to explore explicit concepts of well-being so they can live healthy and fulfilling lives.

Parents

We value parental involvement at RAK Academy (RAKA) and make every effort to ensure parents remain connected to us at every stage of their child’s education. We view parents as partners in their child’s education and encourage them to attend events at the Academy.

We know that children thrive academically when they have parental support, and we know that the more involved in their children’s education the better their children’s grades become.
Our teachers are happy to collaborate with parents to ensure their child reaches his or her potential. The most effective forms of parental engagement are those that directly relate to student learning, for example, programmes that promote shared reading, interactive homework, and learning support workshops. Children with engaged parents have been shown to have higher self-esteem and develop more self-confidence.
We endeavour to keep parents up to date with their child’s progress and attendance and always keep them informed on forthcoming activities and events. Our recently introduced parent portal is just one example of how we keep lines of communication open between parents and teachers.
