The National Curriculum for England
In Key Stage 1 and 2, our curriculum is based on the National Curriculum for England with adaptations to contextualize learning within our global setting and ensure it is delivered in a thematic approach where areas of the curriculum are connected and integrated within a theme. Our specialist teachers ensure a deep and enrich learning experience.
Key Stage 1
[KG2 and Grade1]
(5 and 6 years old)
Lessons are delivered in a way that considers learning styles and age-related expectations while building on knowledge gained in the in Pre-K and KG1. Phonics lessons are delivered to build foundations for reading and spelling. Depth of learning is important in this phase as children are taught to apply their prior knowledge to demonstrate mastery of the curriculum.

Lower Key Stage 2
[Grades 2 and 3]
(7 and 8 years old)
In Grades 2 and 3, the children continue to study the key subjects: English, Mathematics, Science, Arabic, Islamic and Social Studies and have specialist teachers for Art, Music, Computing and Physical Education (PE). A regular spelling program is introduced, building on Phonetic knowledge from key Stage 1. Independence in all aspects of learning is fostered and encouraged, to ensure readiness for the transition to Upper Key Stage 2.
Upper Key Stage 2
[Grades 4 and 5]
(9 and 10 years old)
In Upper Key Stage 2 children develop their knowledge through real experiences and begin to use increasingly complex spoken language to fully underpin the development of their reading and writing. Students are encouraged to establish a love of reading and there is an emphasis focused on mastery of the entire curriculum. We provide a strong focus on English, Mathematics and Science at this age, through the provision of specialist teachers ensuring our learners develop a deep and rich understanding of these core subjects to provide a strong foundation for a positive secondary experience in the transition to secondary school..

PYP : IB Primary Years Programme
The IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) recognises a child’s natural curiosity and is defined by six trans-disciplinary themes of global significance. We emphasize the importance of traditional subject areas such as literacy and mathematics. The five essential elements of the PYP comprise knowledge, concepts, skills, attitudes, and actions that are expected in each of the grade levels. We see learning as a developmental process that is not always linear or age-related. The PYP promotes lifelong learning, whereby students acquire skills that equip them to be successful in later life.
We provide an enriched specialist teaching provision, in line with leading international schools, in Physical Education, Music, Computing and Arabic.
The International Baccalaureate (IB) Learner Profile
All IB programmes aim to develop internationally-minded individuals. The IB learner profile represents 10 key attributes: Inquirers, Open-minded, Knowledgeable, Caring, Thinkers, Risk-takers, Communicators, Balanced, Principled and Reflective. These result in principled life-long learners who are willing to use their experiences to grow and who are compassionate towards those around them.
The PYP
[KG2 to Grade 5]
(5 to 10 years old)
The International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP) provides a shared,
transdisciplinary subject curriculum for primary schools, with a balanced programme of concepts,
knowledge, skills and actions. The PYP transdisciplinary curriculum brings individual subject
disciplines together into a coherent holistic approach, whilst preserving the essence of every
single subject.
PYP learners are supported to acquire and practice a wide range of essential skills in the six subject areas. The focus is on enhancing both the academic and holistic development of our pupils, empowering them to be prepared for the next stage in their lifelong learning, including the next exciting step as they transition to secondary education at RAK Academy.
